FOR BEACH BUMS

St Barth’s ( Caribbean )

St. Barts—also known as St-Barth, St. Barths, and Saint Barthélemy—is a French-speaking Caribbean island known for its luxe vibe and flawless beaches. Popular among the jet set, St. Barts is home to many high-end restaurants, designer stores, and yachtss. With no direct flights from the U.S., this little piece of paradise in the French West Indies isn't super easy to reach, but that's part of its allure. Many visitors arrive by private plane or yacht, and those who go the commercial route know the treasure awaiting them at the end is worth the multi-step journey.

Maldives ( Indian Ocean )

When it comes to beach destinations, Maldives has few rivals. There are now over 100 resorts occupying these tiny parcels of paradise -- all spread out over 90,000 square kilometers. This means there's an accommodation to suit every traveler, whether you're in search of a romantic getaway, a culinary-focused luxury escape or a family surfing adventure in an eco-conscious, sustainable environment. Getting there is half the fun, too, and involves either hopping onto a speed boat for a cruise from the airport or a thrilling ride to a far-flung atoll in a seaplane.

FOR WINTER LOVERS

Lapland ( Finland & Sweden )

Lapland is as close as reality gets for those who dream of a winter wonderland. It is a magnificent winter destination and a fascinating experience. It is a region in Scandinavia, which covers both Finland and Sweden’s northernmost parts in the Arctic Circle. Easiest way to reach is take a flight from Helsinki or Stockholm. A winter trip to the land of Santa will certainly endow you with the greatest husky safaris, the best reindeer sleigh rides, and the most thrilling snowmobile adventures. And of course the Northern Lights can be seen playing on the Arctic sky of Lapland between January and April.

Megeve ( France )

In the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps lies a super chic ski resort that is beloved by A-listers and aristocrats alike for its under-the-radar elegance and sophistication. Championed by the Rothschilds, it has since become a winter hideaway for the very grand, and at one point could boast more crowned Heads of State than any other ski resort in the Alps. The crowd these days really hasn’t changed very much at all, maybe slightly more Geneva-based bankers and their Euro chic families. It’s understated elegant appeal has not wavered and unlike some other resorts it has managed to avoid a huge influx of new money by remaining low key, and rather old school.

FOR ADVENTURE SEEKERS

Patagonia ( Chile & Argentina )

Patagonia is vast, untamed and beautiful. Covering roughly one million square km at the end of the South America, the region spans both Chile and Argentina and is filled with towering mountains, blue-tinged glaciers, emerald-green lakes, raging rivers, sub-polar forests and ice-carved fjords. Within this epic wilderness there are outposts that make taking it all in feasible: the range of accommodation within Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park and, on the other side of the border, the small town of El Chaltén, Argentina. It is an amazingly rich area for nature and adventure lovers.

Maldives ( Indian Ocean )

The town La Fortuna is home to the famous Arenal Volcano and also known as the adventure capital of Costa Rica. It offers a beautiful rainforest, impressive waterfalls, an abundance of wildlife, and the typical Costa Rican “campesino (farmer)” culture. The Arenal Volcano became famous because it consistently spewed lava, gas, and ash until it went into a resting phase, in 2010. Although you can no longer see lava, the perfectly symmetrical volcano it is still very impressive. Arenal offers nearly every adventure activity you can think of. The area has amazing activities and scenery straight out of “Jurassic Park,” minus the dinosaurs.
